Top Ten of 2017

We have all already put 2017 to rest.  I only posted to this blog twice in 2017 and even though the year was not a particularly good year, it deserves better than just two posts.  So let us post our top ten moments, events, or pictures for 2017, A Year In Review!

10. December (This is really January of 2018 but so close to 2017, couldn't help including it).  Canada - Vancouver and Victoria.
A pixelated whale...cold and dreary day in Vancouver.  Beautiful city regardless of the weather.

Totem poles in Vancouver...way cool!

Crossing the ferry to Victoria...awesome ride despite the cold and wet weather!

A Victorian castle...so fun to tour.  Beautifully restored.  All kinds of awesomeness.

Victoria skyline and parliament at night.

Brazen birds waiting for scraps of food!

The sun peaked out for the ferry ride back to Van!

9. March - The passing of a sibling is definitely not a favorite moment of 2017, but reconnecting with family and friends afforded a few moments of joy during a very difficult time.
Some much needed Med Byrd hospitality.

My evil stepsisters undoubtedly plotting against me!
Donna May rockin' in Fuquay!

Oh family, much loved and tolerated.

Oma and her grandkids!
Smiling cousins!
8. May - My First Century!  Castro Valley to Davis!  100 Miles on a sunny spring day!

My last bit of energy to take this traditional photo.

100 Miles back on the train.  MMMM Post ride Beer!

7. (all Year) A Puppy Becomes a Hound from Hell!
From sweet little lap dog...
...to miniature pony!  Someone at the rescue grossly underestimated the size predicted for this puppy.

6. June - Abandoned Oakland 16th Street Train Station.  Just way cool! Great to get into this space before it becomes reclaimed and gentrified.

5. December - My second trip to North Carolina this year!  Under much happier circumstances.  Mom has moved in wth Billy and friends came over to say Hello.

Who knew tiny little Becca would grow to be such a beautiful and stately woman? (I had my suspicions it would happen).
Medwick holding court.

Billy in his new palatial Clayton estate.
Brandi and Scott celebrating their new found relationship.  Congrats to them both .

4. January - Oakland Women's March.  Unity, Strength, and Hope!

Running into these two during the march certainly put a big smile on my face.

Dedicated to the cause!

3. December - Our first ever Krampus vs. St. Knick Party.  Krampus and St. Knick both came for a visit.  Good times people, good times.

A small tableaux playing out for Yosiell's immortal soul...mwahahahaha!

2.   October - Getting this medal for the Oakland Grand Fondo was a proud moment, because this was a seriously challenging ride!  The pain and exhaustion experienced on this ride may not be evident from the photo but it is emblazoned on my memory people!  Oakland has way too many hills and this ride forced participants up every one of them.

1. June - The number one moment of 2017 was really crossing the finish line for the Aids Life Cycle ride.  Months and months of training finally paid off.  After 7 days and 545 miles, it was truly a great feeling to be finished with the ride.  This was a major life accomplishment for me, not just a physical challenge but a mental challenge as well.  Organizers of the ride often say it will be life changing, and I suppose I would internally roll my eyes at this trite sentiment, but this ride really was life changing, just not in the traditional earth shattering one big gesture kind of way.  More in the quiet internal victory way.

So, that is it friends, my 2017 gone in the blink of an eye.  Although lots of great things happened this year, I'm hoping for a much happier and hope filled 2018.  another ALC Ride is coming up and I really need to start training in earnest for this one...been a little slack to date!  I am also looking forward to posting more than just two times for the new year.  I've missed my time to reach out and touch you, my gentle readers.  This year my resolution is to have more...more peace, more contentment, more joy, and more of each of you in my life.
