The Big Feet Boys...and other Randomness

My Euro Trash blog mentioned the "Big Feet Boys", a Marching Band in Germany whose repertoire includes such classic American favorites as "Sunshine on My Shoulder"and "Satisfaction". We were certainly taken by this odd band at the Hochheim Weinfest, and through the magic that is Youtube, I can now bring their special brand of random oddity to my gentle readers...

Enjoy...

As I reflect on the last few weeks, we have had much to celebrate. Judge Vaughn Walker declared Prop. 8 unconstitutional. After the judgment was released, we marched from the Castro to City Hall in San Francisco.  The emotions?  Jubilant.  The speeches?  Awful.

Although the 9th circuit put a stay on his decision, the courts did put a fast track on the appeal, and the burden of proof is on the proponents for demonstrating they have standing and that the marriages would constitute a threat to Californians.

Other celebrations?

We official celebrated our 20th Anniversary on August 10th, despite our wonderful Anniversary trip to Europe (see Euro Trash Blogspot).

Rusty made reservations for the Franciscan restaurant in Fisherman's Wharf.

Odd choice? I thought so too. After all, it is touristy and has all of the elegance of a Shiny Diner....but with the prices of Tavern on the Green, of course.

I'm sure the view would have been incredible were it not for the intense August fog. The reason for the visit to the Franciscan, one word: Ciappinno.

The Franciscan has the best Ciappinno in the city. So incredible that, with no small degree of humiliation, we licked the bowls clean.  Fisherman's stew sounds so simple but this concoction had an unmatched richness and a depth of flavor and freshness available only in San Francisco.

A few days later, I celebrated my 45th Birthday with Rusty at a new Sushi restaurant in our neighborhood. Incredible food!  A highly recommend restaurant:  Park Sushi!

Toward the end of August, we enjoyed friends at the house for Hungarian Goulash (veggie and meat based), Palika, Unicum (Hungairian Jaegar), and a Black Forest Cherry Cake...Thanks for all the nifty gifties.  Most people know me fairly well and brought plenty of booze to toast my 45 years (a few people even went with my personal favorite - Hendrick's Gin...)

Rusty in his Romanian hat.

Friends relaxing and looking at Europe slides...can there be any worse torture.

More Birthday joy!

Lots to celebrate this month but most importantly, celebrating 20 years with Rusty, my best friend, my partner and the one man who has tolerated me for all of this time.  I can't imagine having lived these many years without him in my life as my love, and I look forward to the next twenty years of ups, downs and all in between.

August, of course my thoughts are turning to the start of the new school year and all the joys it entails.  More important news later...I'm going to miss the summer!
